Networks#
TOG runs on several networks, each with its own genesis and network_id. A node refuses a genesis file whose hash differs from the one it was told to expect, so always check the genesis hash from a second source before you start a node.
Public testnet#
Opens 1 January 2027. Outside validators, compute workers and developers can join.

Not published yet
The values in angle brackets are published here, on the faucet page and in the launch announcement when the testnet starts. The genesis hash is always published in at least two places so you can compare them.
Rules that apply on the public testnet#
- Workers bond 10 000 test-TOG each. See Bond.
- Storage data is kept by at least 3 storage workers.
- A node's bandwidth counts only after workers of several different owners have measured it, so a worker must be reachable from the internet on its p2p port.
Closed testnet#
Running since October 2026 on machines operated by the TOG team. It is used to test transfers, jobs, AppChain jobs, era changes, restarts and nodes joining from a snapshot before the public testnet. It is not open to outside nodes.
Local devnet#
You can run a whole network on one Linux machine (validators, compute workers, storage workers and an AppChain) for development. Its network_id is 0x7e57 and every key is made locally.
devnet/devnet.sh up # build, write genesis and keys, start everything
devnet/devnet.sh status # Hub height, processes, accounts
devnet/devnet.sh job # a CPU job, followed until it settles
devnet/devnet.sh down
On macOS the devnet runs inside one Docker container: devnet/docker.sh up. AppChain developers have a lighter option, tog dev, described in Build an AppChain.
Light-client checkpoints#
A light client trusts a Hub header for 14 days. A node that starts later than that, or was offline for longer, needs a recent trusted header. It is published weekly as checkpoint.toml in two independent places:
https://faucet.theonlygrid.com/checkpoint.toml- the release repository, under
testnet/checkpoints/(<CHECKPOINT_REPO_URL>)
Compare the two copies before you use one. Two copies for the same era are byte-identical.
curl -fsSL https://faucet.theonlygrid.com/checkpoint.toml -o a.toml
curl -fsSL <CHECKPOINT_REPO_URL>/checkpoint.toml -o b.toml
cmp a.toml b.toml && echo identical
Use its height and block hash as trusted_height and trusted_block_hash in a worker's togd.toml, or as [trusted_checkpoint] in a validator's config.
